Here's some rare photos of the glove factory
On Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. Icon viewers have an opportunity to view the glove factory at 327 N. Main St.
The Et Cetera Shop board hosts the open house. Et Cetera will relocate to the glove factory following renovations.
Tammy Cottle provided the Icon with some photos from her family showing some of the employees of the glove factory.
She recalls as a little girl in the early ‘70s climbing the stairs to the second floor where it was so hot and stuffy, “so that we could surprise grandmother, who worked there, with lunch.”
“She looked so proud for us to see her working so hard,” said Cottle. “Her hard work ethic was passed on to my mom, Carolyn Daniels of Mt. Cory.
“I recall seeing gloves everywhere and fluffy debris floating around. She always spoke fondly of her glove factory days, from where she retired.”
Here photos follow with these explanations:
• (Top photo) Loretta (Waldman) Ripley of Mt. Cory from the late 1960s-early 1970s – Tammy’s grandmother
• Late 1950s, early 1960s - From left: Eva Martin, unknown, Joan (Ripley) Burnfield, Kathryn Lamb, Loretta (Waldman) Ripley, Grace Heldman – Joan is Cottle’s aunt, Loretta is her grandmother.
• The only person recognized is my aunt, Marietta (Ripley) Crawford of Rawson. She is the 6th person from the right.
• A photo from the 1950s. The woman on the left is my grandmother, Loretta (Waldman) Ripley and her friend, Kathryn Lamb.
