Did you notice that hundreds of Bluffton University students were volunteering all over Bluffton on August 28? Their presence was certainly felt on social media, where local organizations warmly welcomed their helpers.
As part of Bluffton University’s Welcome Weekend activities, student-athletes participated in an Athletics Day of Service. Approximately 440 student-athletes⎯from every team on campus⎯took part.
Service opportunities included:
- Preparing the Nature Preserve ahead of Bluffton hosting the HCAC championship cross country meet
- Mulching flowerbeds at Maple Crest and Mennonite Memorial Home
- Picking up trash along the three overpasses in town
- Storing furniture and equipment at Bluffton Community Pool
Athletics Day of Service is new this year and is part of Bluffton’s Virtue-Drive Athletics programming.
Additional service experiences will take place throughout the academic year such as adopt-a-family during the holiday season and High-Five Fridays at Bluffton Village Schools. The goal is for Athletics Day of Service to become an annual event.
