Bluffton Public Library programs and services for December 2023
The Bluffton Public Library monthly update provides seasonal and regular programming updates. In December there are many special activities and a couple days of holiday closings.
Winter Fundraiser: Through December 31, 2023. Your donation will help us continue fostering a lifetime love of learning in our community! Mitten Tree with Bluffton Community Assistance Program: Help decorate our tree with NEW mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, socks, earmuffs/bands and umbrellas for ALL ages. Donations will be collected December through January and given to Bluffton Community Assistance Program.
Holiday Dulcimers: The Bluffton Dulcimer Group will be performing Holiday Dulcimer Music on Tuesday, December 5 at 1:00 p.m. on the main floor of the Bluffton Public Library. Light refreshments provided by The Friends of the Bluffton Public Library.
Noon Book Group meets Wed., Dec. 6 to discuss The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. On Wed., Jan. 3, the group will discuss The Ride of Her Life by Elizabeth Letts. Stop by the library front desk to register and pick up the book!
From Kyrgyzstan to Bluffton!: Thurs., Dec. 7 at 4:00 p.m. Spend the afternoon meeting a local exchange student, learn more about their country, and play some trivia! This program is open to children, students, and families - please register by Dec.6.
De-Stress with a Dog: during Bluffton University Finals Week (Dec. 11-13) Pet Partners will be at the library during program hours with their therapy dogs so that students can take a break from studies/finals to chill out with a furry friend. Open to everyone!

National Cocoa Day: On Tuesday, December 12, come celebrate with a cup of hot cocoa at the library from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Mobile Health Clinic will be on Wed., Dec. 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All services are provided by individuals with the Ohio Northern University Healthwise program. This clinic includes free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol (please fast for 12 hours to participate in cholesterol or blood sugar screening) and osteoporosis. Participants may speak with ONU Healthwise students and staff about their results or concerns, and even receive referrals to area doctors.
Santa's Fire Truck: The Bluffton Fire Department is helping Santa get his sleigh ready for his annual trip around the world. While he is in town, Santa and the Bluffton Fire Department are coming to visit the library! Join us on Thursday, December 14 at 6:00 p.m. for a FREE night filled with reading, stories, and crafts. Please register in advance, starting December 1. Stop by the library front desk or call 419-358-5016.
Winter Family Storytimes: Join the library for family storytime! We’ll share stories about snow and lights, create some crafts, and enjoy quality time together. No registration is required. Snowy Days: Wednesday, December 6 @ 10:30 a.m. and Twinkling Lights: Wednesday, December 20 @ 10:30 a.m.
Watercolor Workshop: Snow Day (R)($) will be held Thurs., Dec.14 and 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Local artist Jeanne Beutler will teach on the lower level of the library. Walk away with your own watercolor piece of art, complete with mat! There is a $10 supply fee at the door (cash only please), and advance registration is required as space is limited. Open to adults and teens, and children with an accompanying adult.
Book to Movie Discussion Group will be meeting in February to discuss Oliver Twist. Books are available at the library starting December 15, to allow for plenty of reading time for this classic. Stop by the library to pick up the book and to register with your email for Book to Movie reminders and updates. Movie will be shown at the library at noon on Feb. 14 and discussion will be held at noon on Feb. 21. Not able to make the movie showing? DVDs will also be available for checkout. Stay tuned for more details.
Hummin' & Strummin' Song Circle will meet at 5:30 p.m. each Monday the library is open through December 18. This is a relaxed, song-circle style music session and anyone is welcome to join or listen in. Bring your instrument, voice, or listening ears! In January and February, the group will meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month.
Chess Tuesdays! The library has an area designated on the Main Floor for open chess from 5:30-7:30 p.m. every Tuesday the library is open. Bring your own board or use one of the library’s!
Display Case - Teddy Bears - a fluffy friend that can always bring a smile!
At-Home COVID Tests are available at the Library. If you have been exposed to COVID-19, please call to schedule curbside pickup.
HOLIDAYS
*Bluffton Public Library will be closed Monday and Tuesday, December 25-26 in observance of the Christmas holiday. Due dates will be adjusted accordingly and normal hours will resume Wednesday, December 27 at 9:30 a.m.
