Et Cetera Inc. celebrates 50th anniversary with comforter-knotting event
Saturday, October 19, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Arthur Lugibihl Center, Pandora
As part of a year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Bluffton-based Et Cetera Inc., all are invited to join in a “comforter bash” with the aim of creating 50 comforters for distribution by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) relief programs.
Men, women and children are invited to “come when you can, stay as long as you want.” Joyce Schumacher, chairperson of the Celebration Steering Committee, told the Icon, “If you can tie a knot, you can knot a comforter!”
The goal is to make a comforter for each year that Et Cetera Inc. shops have served the community of Bluffton. The comforters will be sent around the world, bringing comfort and relief to those in need.
Snacks and a light lunch will be provided throughout the day.
The trio of Et Cetera Inc shops–Ten Thousand Villages, Book Reviews and the Et Cetera Thrift Shop–will display and sell items at the event.
Also, 50 hygiene kits will be assembled; these kits provide essential supplies for people in need.
DECEMBER ANNIVERSARY EVENT
A final anniversary event is scheduled for December: Redo, Renew, Repurpose will take place on Saturday, December 14, 2-4 p.m., at Bluffton Family YMCA.
