Do you know the way to Bluffton?
By Paula Pyzik Scott
Members of local Girl Scout troop 21165 (who are in grades 8 and 9) are preparing a wayfinding sign that points the way and and the distance to the other 12 Blufftons in North America. The Scouts have visited Bluffton, Indiana—and eaten ice cream there–and learned about the other places named Bluffton in the United States and Canada.
To share their interest, they will be installing a large wayfinding sign in a prominent place that will attract the attention of Bluffton residents and visitors. The wayfinding sign will be installed at the Village’s Legacy Park, which is being developed on Snider Rd. across from the Community Pool and Bluffton Family YMCA.
At the September 8 meeting of Bluffton council, six troop members and leader Kelly Honse made a presentation on their plans to repurpose an AEP utility pole with arrow signs of their own making.
Council viewed photos of the seven girls learning to cut and prepare the arrows for vinyl lettering, which will be supplied by Masterpiece Signs and Graphics. The wood for the signs was donated by Vetter Lumber.
The project has also honed the girls’ presentation skills. They have met twice with the Village parks and recreation committee. Under the leadership of Honse and Whitney Utendorf, the scouts have done a total of four presentations.
