The Bluffton Senior Center, 132 N. Main St. provides a monthly Happenings newsletter for its members. Here's a sampling of announcements for October 2025.
COMMUNITY MEALS
On October 2, St. Mary Catholic Church will be serving the meal and on October 16, St. John UCC will serve. All meals start at 6 p.m. and are free and open to the public. A free will offering will be taken to help the local food pantry.
DINNER MEETING
Monday, October 13 at 6:00 p.m. Our meal will be catered by Pandora Lunch Box. We will have chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, cooked carrots and peach cobbler. The cost is $12 and reservations must be made by October 8.
Chad Spencer has been leading groups on International History Tours since 2014 taking hundreds of students and adults to Europe to experience iconic sites. A common theme of many of these adventures is continued exploration of sites related to United States military involvement in 2 world wars. His presentation will introduce and discuss many of the adventures and discoveries experienced on these tours and the impact they have had upon him and his fellow tour participants.
CHRISTMAS GARAGE SALE
Our Annual Christmas Garage Sale will be Friday, October 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, November 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will take donations for the sale until Wednesday, October 29. We are looking for volunteers to help set up on Thursday, October 30 at 1 p.m. and volunteers to help clean up on November 1 at 1 p.m. We can also use volunteers during the sale itself. Let Tonya know if you can help.
PEANUT BRITTLE
We will start making our sweet treat on Monday, November 3 at 8 a.m. We need many volunteers so mark you calendar now. Many hands make for a fun time.
MEDICARE 101
Medicare 101 is an information class on the different types of Medicare available including Medicare parts A, B, C and D as well as the reason some people need a secondary insurance. Representatives from the Allen County Council on Aging will be at the Bluffton Senior Center on Wednesday, October 15 at 2:30 to present the class and answer questions. This class is great for anyone close to Medicare age and anyone with questions about changing plans. Open enrollment for Medicare is October 15 to December 7, 2025. The class is free and open to the public but reservations are requested so that enough materials will be on hand.
BIBLE STUDY OFFERED
Trent Boedicker from Putnam County Homecare and Hospice will be leading a non-denominational Bible Study at the Bluffton Senior Center starting on Monday October 20 at 9:30 and running for six weeks. Trent has been in full-time ministry for the past 25 years, over 20 of those years at Grace Gospel Church in Ada. The study is called “The I Am Sayings of Jesus: Knowing Christ More Deeply”. Reservations requested so that we have enough materials ready.
DEB’S DOGS
The Bluffton Senior Center will be visited by Deb’s Dogs on Tuesday, October 21 at 2:30 p.m. Deb’s Dogs is a non-profit group that provides vet care for rescued animals. Deb will be bringing some dogs along as she talks about their mission. The program is free and open to the public. No reservation is required, just come and enjoy some puppy time.
TAI CHI
Our next Tai Chi class starts October 28 at 9:30 a.m. and ends January 8. The class is full but we are taking standby.
RUMIKUB
We have a group of members who have been playing Rumikub (yes, there are many different ways to spell it) for many months. The day of the week changes to accommodate when they are available. But since they are now playing on a regular basis, we have added it to our schedule. Keep in mind that Rumikub has many spellings and many different rules depending on who manufactured the game. In the Senior Center, we play house rules just like all the games that we play.
HOBBY CENTER
Beth Lamb’s lambs were not half baaaad. Thank you, Beth, for sharing. In October, Anita Lehman will share her artwork. If you have artwork, a collection or hobby that you would be willing to share, let Tonya or Sherry know.
TOENAIL CLINIC
Our next Toenail Clinic with Dr. Kirk will be Monday October 27 at 9:30 a.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the office at 419-358-8971 or stopping by the office. Appointments cost $10 and are due at the time of appointment.
