Elnore Ruth (Rosenberger) Yost taught at Marimor

Elnore Ruth (Rosenberger) Yost, 98, passed away May 22, 2026, at Willow Ridge in Bluffton, OH. Elnore was born June 23, 1927, in Pandora, OH, to Ella (Habegger) Rosenberger and Arthur S. Rosenberger, then pastor of St. John Mennonite church. On August 21, 1949, Elnore married Burton Yost in Quakertown PA.

Elnore spent her childhood in Quakertown, PA, Bluffton, OH and Dalton, OH, where she graduated from high school in 1945. She received her BS from Bluffton College in 1949. Elnore later received certification in Special Education and Case Management.

Elnore partnered with Burton in his pastorate at Upper Milford Mennonite Church 1953-1961 in Zionsville, PA. Elnore and Burton, with their children Philip, Beth and Anita, moved to Bluffton in 1961 for Burton to take a teaching assignment at the College. A fourth child, Peter, was born in Bluffton. The family then moved to Nashville, TN, for Burton to pursue graduate studies.

After returning to Bluffton in 1966, Elnore taught weekday religious education for 8 years. She later taught at Marimor School for the Allen County Board of MRDD for 10 years and then continued another three years as a case manager.

Elnore accompanied her husband on his teaching sabbaticals to Taiwan, India and South Korea. Elnore and Burton also traveled to China, Switzerland and Israel.

Elnore was an active member of First Mennonite Church, having taught children's Sunday School, participated in Mennonite Women and volunteered with Ten Thousand Villages.

Elnore was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with a kind and compassionate heart.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Burton (2019), eldest son Philip (2014) and daughter-in-law Susan Wimmers Yost (2024). Surviving children include Beth (Ross) Sheldrake of Calgary, AB, Anita (Tim) Reimer of Wichita, KS, Peter (Deborah Proffitt) Yost of Columbia, TN; 5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren. A brother, Richard Rosenberger, Quakertown, PA, also survives.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at First Mennonite Church, Bluffton.
