Bluffton couple's love of cars to benefit UNOH automotive majors

After finishing college, Larry and Judy Reichenbach got married in August of 1964. Larry had recently purchased a 1958 Corvette. He was forced to rebuild the transmission the night before (and the day of) their wedding. They got it done in time to take it on their honeymoon, but it had a number of problems during the time they owned it, so they traded it in for a different car. With a lasting fondness for the earlier Corvette, a co-worker offered a 1959 Corvette to Larry for purchase, which he purchased in 1971. Carefully restoring it, Larry returned it to like-new condition in 1980. This became Judy's favorite car. They went to car shows, and as the family came along, they continued to do so. Years later, Larry restored the car a second time, and to this day it maintains a beautiful appearance.
Judy passed away in the summer of 2025 and Larry decided to donate this car to the Western Buckeye Region of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America (VCCA), in memory of Judy. He wanted them to do what made sense for the club. It was decided to enter this car in an online auction (BringATrailer.com), with the proceeds going into a fund used to provide scholarships to UNOH students enrolled in Automotive majors. This auction will be in June 2026. In the 6 years this Region has been in existence, it has awarded around $3,500 in scholarships. Knowing that the future of the old car hobby lies in the younger generation, providing scholarships to these students encourages students to continue their education and to get jobs that keep automobiles serviced and on the road.
Bluffton area residents who are currently a part of the Western Buckeye Region include Dan and Brenda Groman, Darrell Groman, Darryl and Marcia Gallant, and Scott and Jennifer Little. This Region of the VCCA serves the West Central Ohio area. Monthly meetings, periodic driving tours, vintage car meets, and other activities are a part of the VCCA routine. The Western Buckeye Region is extremely thankful to Larry for entrusting this beautiful car and the funds received by its sale to this club.
For those interested in following the auction, they can go to bringatrailer.com, which opens up a page where you can enter "1959 Corvette." You will then find this car being auctioned. This auction is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 17 at 2:10 a.m. (EST) and will end on June 24 at 11:07 a.m. (PT). Instructions are on the website for those interested in bidding.
EDITOR'S NOTE: There are two red Ohio Corvettes. You'll see the scholarship details in the description.
