Gayla Sue Conaway worked for Marathon Oil Company

Gayla Sue Conaway, 91, passed away July 31, 2026, at Birchaven Village in Findlay. Gayla was born July 25, 1935, in Bluffton to the late Lewis and Agnes (Schaublin) Wynkoop. On May 7, 1954, she married LeRoy "Lee" Conaway, who preceded her in death on May 17, 2013. 

Gayla graduated from the brand-new school at Pandora-Gilboa High School in 1953. After graduating, she worked for Marathon Oil Company in Findlay and had been a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Cory Church of Faith and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Gayla enjoyed gardening, flowers, animals and loved attending Country Concert in Fort Loramie. 

Survivors include three children, Debra (James Francek) Sapienza of Findlay, David (Carolyn) Conaway of Mount Cory, Dina (Art) Kennon of Clay City, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Danielle (Scott Smith) Sapienza of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Michael (Erin Dunne) Sapienza of Columbus, Ohio, Nick (Kim) Conaway of Findlay, Cody (Megan) Conaway of Van Buren, Kelsey (Andrew) McLachlan of Centerville, Ohio, Cole (Jessie) Wood of Mt. Cory; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Lynn (Carol) Wynkoop of Amherst, Ohio and a sister, LuAnn (Doug) Wilburn of Columbus, Ohio.

Gayla was also preceded in death by son Darrin Conaway, grandson Matthew Sapienza; brother Dennis Wynkoop and sister Eileen Holdman.

Per Gayla's wishes, there will be a private celebration of life held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bridge Home Health and Hospice and Pastor Mike Noggle for their excellent and compassionate care of Gayla.
