ARCHBOLD__The visiting Bluffton High School boys soccer team came from behind to defeat Archbold 2-1 in a non-league match on Thursday evening, August 20.

The Pirates improved to 2-1 with the comeback win. The Bluestreaks fell to 0-2 after the defeat.

Bluffton controlled much of the play in the first half, yet still found themselves trailing 1-0 at halftime.

But the Pirates came out firing after intermission. Chase Kelly scored just 1:18 into the second half to even the match, 1-1.

About 10 minutes later, Bluffton’s Jaxston Morris found the back of the net again to give the Pirates the lead, 2-1.

The defense then shut out Archbold over the final 28 minutes to preserve the one-goal lead and secure the win.

Bluffton put nine of its 19 shots on frame, while limiting Archbold to just seven shots, five of which were on goal.

Ryan Blount recorded four saves in goal for the Pirates.

Winning head coach Dan Lee reported that Kelly was named the Pirate “Player of the Match.”

The Pirate junior varsity also beat Archbold 2-0 to improve to 3-0-1. The Bluffton goals were scored by Jeht Kruse and Kale Brauen.

Bluffton hosts Spencerville (0-1) in the Northwest Conference opener on Tuesday, August 25 at 7 p.m. on the Steinmetz Field pitch.

The Pirates then entertain Elida (0-0) on Thursday, Aug. 27.
