December in Bluffton is busy. Here's a listing of many of the month's events that are opent to the public, compliments of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Ruth Naylor, Bluffton poet/writer will launch her newest book at Book ReViews as part Blaze of the Lights from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29.

The book title is  "Straw & All: A Christmas Poetry Collection."  During her poetry reading and book signing Naylor will share Christmas experiences that inspired the poetry.

According to Elaine Sommers Rich, Naylor has a “rare ability to imbue Christmas trappings such as candles, trees, and presents with a spiritual aura.”

Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services hosts its annual Tree of Remembrance Service on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 3 p.m. at its Shawnee Chapel, 1170 Shawnee Road, Lima.

This service honors those we have lost, and is open to everyone, no matter what their faith, when they lost their loved one, or which funeral home performed the service.  Every family will receive an ornament engraved with their loved one’s name that they can take home for memories that will last lifetime.

Kick-off your holiday shopping on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 2-4 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 223 W. College Ave., in Bluffton. Stop in anytime for cash and carry items, free samples and refreshments.

Making his debut will be Larry Battle, with Larry’s Cakes. These delicious pound cakes will be available for sampling. Orders for the holidays can be placed. Cakes come in all sizes to feed the smallest or largest family gathering.

Bluffton Relay For Life will hold a quarter auction/bingo from 6:30-9:30 on Friday, Dec. 5 at the Bluffton Middle School cafetorium. Those attending will play bingo and bid on gift baskets donated by Origami Owl, Thirty One, Jamberry Nails, Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Tastefully Simple, and  It Works.

Food will be available. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
