Obituaries

Sonia Sue Cupples, 68, passed away October 18, 2022 at her residence in Bluffton. Sonia was born May 28, 1954 in Bluffton to the late Robert and JoAnn (Stonehill) Dillman. On May 5, 1973 she married Jerry Cupples who survives.

Sonia was a 1972 graduate of Bluffton High School and the Ohio State Beauty Academy. She owned and operated Sonia's Hair Stop in Bluffton for twenty years and later retired from Matthew Jordan DDS Office in Bluffton. Sonia was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bluffton. Her greatest hobby was spending time with her grandchildren.

Goshen, IN–Logan Ian Nussbaum, 18, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022.

He was born November 10, 2003 in Kettering, Ohio to Rick and Aphaphanh (Sengsy) Nussbaum. He lived most of his life in Bluffton, Ohio and moved to Goshen, Indiana in 2018.

Rosemary Conley Powell, age 72, of Lima, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.

BLUFFTON--Lee Michael "Lee Boy" Brodman, 38, passed away October 12, 2022 at his residence.  Lee was born September 7, 1984 in Bluffton, Ohio to Roger Brodman and April (Augsburger) Dorman.   

BEAVERDAM--John H. Eckenwiler, 84, passed away October 11, 2022 at his residence.  John was born February 15, 1938 in Beaverdam to the late Roy and Georgine (Bishop) Eckenwiler. 

Joanne Miriam Vercler Niswander, 93, of Bluffton passed away on October 8, 2022. Joanne was born September 24, 1929 on a farm in Meadows, Illinois to the late Elmer and Naomi (Claudon) Vercler.  Joanne graduated from Chenoa High School in Chenoa, Illinois and Bluffton College.

She met Dean Niswander at Bluffton College and they married on August 20, 1950.  She and her husband Dean lived in Bluffton where they enjoyed raising their six children, were active with the community, church, and school.  In 1964 they moved to Okemos, Michigan. While there, Joanne was a secretary at Okemos schools, and later served as secretary to Lansing District Superintendent of the United Methodist Church. In 1976, they moved to Gibsonburg, Ohio where Joanne was a docent at the Toledo Museum of Art until 1990.  In 1991, Dean and Joanne moved back to Bluffton where they both volunteered for Bluffton College, traveling across the country as Alumni Ambassadors for nine years.  They were honored as Outstanding Alumnus/Alumna of Bluffton College in 1996 and received the first Ray Ramseyer Philanthropy Award in 2003.
