Under direction of new head coach Jeff Richards, the Bluffton Pirate football team opens their season Friday night at Cory-Rawson. Bluffton will be looking to continue the momentum of a 7-3 season in 2015 but must replace many lost senior starters to do so.
Head coach Jeff Richards was hired in January to replace Kyle Cutnaw who resigned after going 10-10 over two seasons at the helm of the program. Richards graduated from Bluffton High in 2004 and played center on the football team under Dennis Lee.
Bluffton High's girls golf team defeated Wapakoneta 206-240 in a recent match. Alivia Koenig was the medalist at 43. Also scoring in the 40s was Kayleigh Coughlan with a 48.
Southgate Lanes, Bluffton, is preparing for the 2016-17 bowling season, according to Derek Dukes.
The first weekend of bowling is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8-10.
Dukes said that in addition to open bowling that weekend, the Maria Sein brewery will hold a Tap Takeover Sept. 8-10 and will bring five different draft beers and Southgate will offer different flights to try all five flavors.
Summer conditioning programs and 10 days of coaching come to an end this weekend as the first official day of practice for all OHSAA fall sports arrives Monday, Aug. 1, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
