WOMEN’S GOLF: Bluffton opens fall finale with 351 at Wittenberg
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio__The Bluffton University women's golf team just beat the darkness, finishing day one of the Wittenberg Fall Classic with a 351 on Sunday, Oct. 15. Playing in same-school fivesomes the first nine took nearly four hours, but Bluffton managed to get out in front of the whistle as three schools will need to finish round one on Monday morning before playing the final 18 holes.
The Bluffton High School girls soccer team defeated visiting Mansfield Christian 4-1 in Div. III sectional final action on Thursday night, October 19, at Steinmetz Field.
The Pirates scored all four of their goals in a 12-minute span midway through the game, and the defense held MC scoreless most of the match to post the win.
Bluffton’s overall record improved to 10-6-2 after the victory.
The win set up a rematch with local league rival Allen East (15-3) in the district semifinals.
The Bluffton High School boys soccer team lost a 3-2 overtime nailbiter to visiting Old Fort in Div. III sectional semifinal action Wednesday evening, Octoberr 18, at Steinmetz Field.
The sixth-seeded Pirates end their season 5-11-2 after the difficult defeat.
OF improves to 8-7-3 with the win, and advances to the sectional finals. The eighth seed Stockaders now visit third-seeded Van Buren (10-6) Saturday, Oct. 21 at noon for the right to advance to districts.
Pirate Northwest Conference Player of the Year Theo Andreas drew first blood when he found the back of the net in the eighth minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 to intermission and beyond. OF eventually tied it in the 51st minute on a goal by Andrew Tackett.
On Thursday, October 19 Bluffton High School at Columbus Grove Football presale tickets will be on sale at the Bluffton Schools.
Presale tickets will be sold to players, cheerleaders, coaches, and band members at the High School cafeteria from 7:00-8:00 a.m. Players, cheerleader, or band member, may only purchase a maximum of 4 tickets.
From 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., tickets will be sold to the general public in the High School cafeteria.
The Bluffton High School volleyball team placed five players on the All-Northwest Conference squads in voting conducted Sunday, October 15, by league coaches.
Versatile Pirate setter Grace Yarnell was named first team All-NWC. She led the team in assists (630) and aces (55), and was second in digs (224). The 5-7 junior also hit 65 kills and added 17 blocks.
Bluffton HIgh School senior soccer standout Theo Andreas was voted Northwest Conference Player of the Year in voting recently conducted by the league coaches.
Andreas paced the team in goals as he led the Pirate boys to their ninth consecutive league title at 5-0. Bluffton is 42-0-0 all-time in conference play.
Pirate seniors Ben Hartzler and junior Jack Brauen each made first team all-league alongside Andreas.
Sophomore Ethan Blount was named second team all-league.
