Tickets are on sale for Bluffton University’s May Day-weekend production of Jason Robert Brown’s contemporary musical revue, “Songs for a New World.”
Dr. Melissa Friesen, an associate professor and chair of communication and theatre at Bluffton, will direct the show, to be staged May 2-4 in Yoder Recital Hall.
Independent documentary filmmaker Julia Reichert, a three-time Academy Award nominee, will screen portions of “Films from the early Women’s Liberation Movement” in a Bluffton University Forum on Tuesday, April 2.
Her presentation, marking International Women’s Day, is free and open to the public beginning at 11 a.m. in Yoder Recital Hall.
Tickets for May Day weekend events at Bluffton University may be purchased at a box office opening April 1 in the Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education.
Open from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. weekdays, the box office in the Sommer Center lobby will accept cash, checks and credit cards.
The Bluffton University baseball team opened up conference play on Friday, March 22, 2013, against Anderson University in a tough battle between the two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foes. Bluffton mounted a four-run comeback late in the game, but it was not enough as the Ravens held on for the 6-5 victory.
Christians need to live their beliefs in order to change a criminal justice system that continues to punish offenders after they’ve served prison sentences.
Bringing that message to Bluffton University March 19 was a Mennonite pastor who also has personal experience with the system she hopes to see reformed.
Dr. J. Denny Weaver, a professor emeritus of religion at Bluffton University, will return to campus to deliver the commencement address on Sunday, May 5. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in Salzman Stadium or, in the event of inclement weather, in the Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education.
In his speech, Weaver is expected to encourage graduates to apply their investment in education to help “bend the arc” that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. said is long but bends toward justice.
