Bluffton University has announced its 2011 May Day court, which was elected by the student body and will be honored during the annual May Day celebration at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, on the Centennial Hall lawn. The rain location is Founders Hall.
The court includes King Kenny Miller and Queen Leah Roeschley, both seniors, along with senior escort Joel Wildermuth, senior attendant Mary Good and junior chairpersons Jenna Eshleman and Alex Woodring.
From Walnut Creek, Ohio, Miller is majoring in accounting and business administration. The son of Robert and Connie Miller, he has been involved with intramural sports, the Investment Club, tennis ball golf, the Lincoln Hall Association and student life activities.
Roeschley, from Flanagan, Ill., is majoring in food and nutrition with a concentration in dietetics. Her parents are Bluffton alumni Mark and Jane Roeschley.
She is president of the Peace Education and Active Community Endeavor (PEACE) Club, a C. Henry Smith Scholar and an assistant to the campus visit coordinator and in the peace and conflict studies program. She is also a member of Camerata Singers, Brothers and Sisters in Christ (BASIC), the Bluffton University Nutrition Association and Pi Delta honor society.
A history major with a minor in theological studies, Wildermuth is from Sidney, Ohio. He was this year's Student Senate president and has been chapel worship leader and a history department assistant.
He has also been active in the chapel planning committee, BASIC, intramurals and the Shining Through music ministry team. His parents are Mike and Sheila Lundy and the late Brett Wildermuth.
The daughter of Paul and Ruth Conrad and wife of Brian Good, Good is a mathematics major with an adolescent/young adult licensure. The Millersburg, Ohio, native is a C. Henry Smith Scholar, a Presidential Scholar, a math department tutor and a Technology Center student supervisor. She has also been active in BASIC, the Honors Program and intramurals.
From Landisville, Pa., Eshleman is a social work major. Her parents are Keith and Susan Eshleman. She is a religion department assistant and involved in Shining Through, intercollegiate volleyball, BASIC, intramurals, the Social Work Club, the chapel planning committee and chapel band.
Woodring, the son of Dave and Karen Woodring, is from Sherwood, Ohio. A communication/graphic design major, he is active in Accent! men's chorus and concert band. He has also been a resident advisor, manager of the university radio station, a communication department intern and a member of the Bren-Dell Hall Association.
Crown and scepter bearers are Greta and Sophie Kauffman, daughters of Ravonn and Rudi Kauffman. Rudi Kauffman is assistant professor of restorative justice at Bluffton.
May Day is one of the university's oldest traditions. The day's events include the crowning of the king and queen, as well as the maypole dance by first-year students and recognition of graduating seniors.
