Janet Matter 1922-2012

Janet Matter

Janet L. Matter, 89 of Bluffton, died at 2:40 p.m. March 18, 2012, at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born May 11, 1922, in Bluffton to Charles and Dorothy (Alstaetter) Young. On May 7, 1947 she married R. Wayne Matter and he survives. They have shared 64 years of marriage together.

She was a homemaker and had worked at Triplett Corporation, Bluffton for 10 years. She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Bluffton where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Women's Guild, Friendly Couples Class and the church choir. She was a member of Richland Grange and Mt. Cory Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered with the Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary for over 35 years and was a Girl Scout leader. She graduated from Bluffton High School.

Survivors also include four daughters Jane (Ron) Etter of Pandora, Sara (Jack) Behnke of Findlay, Mary (Dave) Fett of Bluffton, Susie (Jan) Gilliland of Bluffton; three sons Ron (Laurie) Matter of Maumee, Rick (Sherrie) Matter of Bluffton, and Randy (Kim) Matter of Bluffton.

Also surviving are eight granddaughters Andrea Etter, Cassie (Justin) Weyer, Megan Fett, Leah Fett, Carrie Bassitt, Caity (Bill) Henniger, Jacklyn Matter, Sara Jane Matter; five grandsons Matt Behnke, Joel Behnke, Sgt. R. Caleb Bassitt, Capt. Ryan (Lt. Rachelle) Matter, and Wyatt Matter.

Also surviving are three sisters Joyce Hauenstein of Bluffton, Mary Lou (John) Cookson of North Carolina, Peggy Bowyer of Bluffton; and a sister-in-law Barb Young of Bluffton.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons Aaron Etter and Ricky Matter; a brother Robert "PeeWee" Young; and a sister Margaret Core.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Bluffton. Rev. Eric Rummel officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.
