Pirate tracksters roar into regional; girls win district, boys finish fifth

Bluffton High School girls' track team added another significant piece of hardware to the BHS trophy case as they won the Liberty Benton District III track meet Saturday.

The girls team scored 92 points to edge second place Waynesfield with 88. Third was Carey with 71.4 and fourth, Columbus Grove with 58.

BHS girls regional qualifiers follow:

3,200 relay - Alissa Garmatter, Hannah Chappell-Dick, Jill Steinmetz, Julie Althaus, first, 10:04.87.
100 dash - Alaina Bixel, fourth, 13:23.
800 relay - Hannah Chappell-Dick, Lydia Guagenti, Alaina Bixel, Karli Leugers, first, 1:46.25.
1,600 run - Julie Althaus, third, 5:43.15.
400 dash - Jill Steinmetz, second, 1:00.86; Lydia Guagenti, third, 1:01.06.
800 run - Hannah Chappell-Dick, first, 2:16.9.
1,600 relay - Jill Steinmetz, Hannah Chappell-Dick, Julie Althaus, Lydia Guagenti, first, 4:04.05.
High jump - Lydia Guagenti, first, 5-08.

Meanwhile, Bluffton boys finished fifth at Liberty Benton's District 2, scoring 66 points. Liberty Benton was first with 172, Elmwood, second, 87, Margaretta, third, 82.5, Van Buren, fourth, 66.
