The Bluffton University men's soccer team kept Cincinnati Christian off the scoreboard for over 41 minutes, but the Eagles followed up their score at the 41:42 mark with three more tallies in the second half en route to a 4-1 victory over the visitors on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012. Bluffton dropped to 0-2 while CCU moved to 1-2 after a pair of losses to Heartland Conference schools to open the season.
Nick Smith found David Bungu late in period one for a 1-0 halftime advantage and the home team used that momentum to go up 3-0 11 minutes into the final stanza when Smith and Joey Haselmayer both found the back of the net. CCU added another tally with 10 minutes to play and were less than 10 seconds from a shutout when a Nate Byrum (London) penalty kick made the final score 4-1.

Cincinnati Christian took just one more shot than Bluffton (16-15) and Bluffton finished with a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. CCU was whistled for five more fouls (15-10) than the Beavers.
Tariq Degraffinreed (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) paced Bluffton with three shots on frame. Byrum, Caleb Berlon (Kettering/Fairmont) and Dylan Mathews (Arlington) chipped in with two shots each.
Bluffton returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 8, when the Beavers travel to Shawnee State as part of a women's and men's doubleheader. The men are slated to start at 3 p.m.
