Luginbuhl to share ‘Sips of Art and Life’
For his spring-semester 2012 sabbatical from Bluffton University, Gregg Luginbuhl, a professor and chair of art, committed to creating one new ceramic cup design each day for 100 days.
Starting on Jan. 1, 2012, he finished the process on April 12, inscribing the bottom of each cup with the day it was made. His creations will be on hand not only for viewing, but also for use, on Friday, March 15, when Luginbuhl discusses his sabbatical in “One Hundred Cups: Sips of Art and Life.”
The colloquium, at 4 p.m. in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall, is free and open to the public.
In addition to reviewing the significance of his cup project and design considerations that were applied to it, Luginbuhl is making the cups available to audience members to use for coffee or other refreshments during the colloquium.
He will also display a few new works in kiln-formed glass and show photos of other works he made while on sabbatical—additions to his “Rustic Decanter” series of fuel cans and “Feeding Frenzy” series of freestanding and relief fish sculptures. Some of them were part of his recent show, “Gregg Luginbuhl: Recent Directions,” at Goshen (Ind.) College.
