Albrecht Gallery to offer "Stations"

Stations,” a series of drawings and paintings by Chicago-area artist Jacob van Loon, will be on exhibit Jan. 6-25 in the Grace Albrecht Gallery of Bluffton University’s Sauder Visual Arts Center.

Admission to the show is free. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. An artist reception will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25.

Van Loon says the “Stations” drawings started as a response to the cross-media approach adapted by many artists leading up to the Bauhaus and Vkhutemas—post-World War I art schools in Germany and Russia, respectively. He describes the series as a “spatial experiment” that merges fundamental aspects of drawing and painting, as well as graphic design.

Van Loon moved this year to DeKalb, Ill., where he lives in the historic Ellwood Museum Campus as part of an internship as design and marketing assistant for the Ellwood Museum Association. He is also studying drawing and working as a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University, where he previously completed a degree in illustration. His paintings and drawings have been exhibited across the U.S. since 2009.
