Allen County task force and Bluffton Pedestrian and Bike Pathway committee say: "Get on your bikes!"

The Allen County Bike and Pedestrian Task Force and the Bluffton Pedestrian and Bike Pathway Steering Committee wants Icon viewers to get on their bikes this summer.

The Allen County task force is cooperating with the National Bike Challenge, which started May 1 and continues to Sept. 30.

The local goal is to get 100 riders to log 60,000 miles by Sept. 30.

The challenge point system gives 20 points for the first mile per day, and 1 point for each extra mile, encouraging people to use their bikes more often, even for short rides.
This helps to level the playing field for riders who ride more miles less often.

The National Bike Challenge is a nationwide event uniting thousands of current bicyclists—and encouraging countless new riders.

In its simplest form it is a logging center for users to record miles ridden and be part of the national community of bicyclists. It is a free and easy way to challenge yourself, colleagues and the greater community to ride more.

Users compete on a local, state and national level. The Challenge aims to unite 75,000 riders to pedal 35 million miles from May 1, until Sept. 30, 2015. The Challenge is a successful partnership between PeopleForBikes and Kimberly-Clark’s Scott Natural Brand.

Riders are welcome to continue to log miles and use the comments section but there will not be prizes or awards given for this period of time.

PeopleForBikes owns, operates and maintains the National Bike Challenge website. PeopleForBikes is making bicycling better for everyone by uniting millions of riders, thousands of businesses and hundreds of communities.
