April 6 Civic Engagement Day theme: Gender roles, relationship, realities

Jonathan Gottschall, author of “The Professor in the Cage” will present the Civic Engagement Day lecture titled “The Professor in the Cage: Why Men Fight and Why We Like to Watch” at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Gottschall, a Distinguished Fellow in the English Department at Washington and Jefferson College, is a leading figure in a new movement to bridge the divide between the two disciplines of the sciences and the humanities. The lecture will conclude a day long series of presentations by faculty, staff and students on this year’s civic engagement theme: Gender Roles, Relationships, Realities.

Civic Engagement Day is the culmination of a year-long exploration of the civic engagement theme, and is an opportunity for members of the campus community to share and experience the broad learning that is taking place at the university. The entire campus community is encouraged to participate in events throughout the day.

Gottschall’s presentation is free and open to the public. The full civic engagement day schedule can be found at www.bluffton.edu/civicday.
