BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team was unable to push any runners across the dish as the Beavers were shut out by the Earlham College Quakers, 6-0, on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. Bluffton dropped to 5-12 (0-4 HCAC) on the season, while Earlham improved to 12-4 (3-2 HCAC).
The game was scoreless until the top of the third when the Quakers plated their first run. They added two more the following inning on a two-run shot to left from right-fielder JOE PIPHER. Earlham would score two more in the fifth and one in the seventh to make the score 6-0.

Bluffton’s best scoring chance came in the bottom of the sixth, when pinch-hitter ALEC BROWN (Jimtown, Ind.) led off with a walk. After a LUKE HICKEY (Toledo/Whitmer) single and a sacrifice bunt from JASON COLLIVER (Beavercreek), the Beavers had runners on second and third with just one out. However, a strikeout and a liner to center ended the threat.

Hickey led the Beavers offensively with two hits. Freshman DANTE D’ANDREA (Westerville/North) fell to 1-2 on the season, going 4.1 innings and giving up five runs on six hits, while striking out five.

Bluffton looks to win its first league game of the season when the Beavers travel to Manchester University this weekend for a single game on Friday, April 1 at 4:15 pm and a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon.
