WOOSTER, Ohio - Entering day two of the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic on Saturday, Sept. 17, the Beavers jumped on top  with a strong start against Capital, taking the first two sets (25-23 and 25-15). It was a back and forth battle in set three with Capital making it 2-1 with the 25-18 victory. Still not able to find their rhythm, the Beavers fell 25-22 in the fourth set. Having the match come down to a deciding fifth set, the Beavers came out to prove a point and dominated the clincher by a convincing 15-9 margin.

Leading the Beavers offensively against Capital was senior Lauren Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) with 16 kills while hitting a blistering .387 for the match. Weisgarber couldn’t do it on her own though as Bethany Martini (Pickertington/North) and Carley Lester (Chesapeake) finished off the match with 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) dished out 45 assists and tallied 10 digs. Junior libero Sydney Mohler (Lima/Central Catholic) added 18 digs to the stat sheet. From the service line, freshman Casey Clark (Lima/Central Catholic) was unstoppable, firing three aces in the victory.

After a stressful five-set match with Capital, Bluffton had a Marietta team waiting to face them. The Beavers wasted little time dispatching the Pioneers in three quick sets (25-17, 25-11, 25-14). Setting the pace for the Beavers was Erin Weisgarber with 27 assists, MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland) paced the offense with 12 kills and no errors for a mind-boggling .600 hitting percentage. Again Lauren Weisgarber and Bethany Martini played very well for the Beavers with nine and six kills, respectively. Abby Rohrbach (New Knoxville) was on fire from the service line, finishing the match with three service aces and five digs. Sydney Mohler chipped in with a team-best seven digs. McFarlin and Lauren Weisgarber were named to the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic All-Tournament Team for their superb play over the weekend!

The Beavers will be back in action Tuesday, Sept. 20, taking on local rival Ohio Northern at 7 p.m. in the Sommer Center.
