Bluffton Public Library announces its April 2017 programs and services, which follow:
Spring Storytime continues on April 3, 10, 17, and 24 at 6:30 p.m., or April. 4, 11, 18, and 25 at 10 a.m. Storytime is for preschool children (ages 3 to 5), and registration is required. You may register by phone (419-358-5016), by e-mail ([email protected]), or in person at the front desk. Space is limited to 18 children per session.
Chill Zone is a time and space for tweens and teens to hang out and relax at the library every Tuesday after school, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Anyone in 6th through 12th grade is welcome to join. Snacks are provided. Activities include: April 11 Harry Potter Trivia; April 18 Movie Madness; and April 25 Naruto and Anime Fun.
Dulcimers @ the Library continues into April at its regular time, Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Meetings are in the library’s lower level.
Adult Book Discussion group met April 5. The group will discuss "Mr. Emerson’s Wife," by Amy Belding Brown on May 3.
On April 6 at 6 p.m., the library’s Sci-Fi/Fantasy Writer’s Group will meet. If you are working on writing in this genre, or are seriously interested in doing so, you are invited to join this group. For more information or to join (space may be limited), email [email protected].
Also on April 6 at 6 p.m., join the library in celebrating National Poetry Month with a “VoxPop” Poetry Reading. Guests may take turns reading one or more of their own original poems. Sign-in to do so begins at 6 p.m. while the reading begins at 6:30 p.m. There will be popcorn and soda pop for participants and audience members to enjoy.
Interested in gaming? Join the library on April 7 and April 21 for Next Level Library at 3:30 p.m. in the lower level. Bring your devices, consoles and games - the library will provide a projector to play, swapping tips and tricks, and chatting about upcoming gaming opportunities. This program is open to all ages.
Library Playgroup begins again on Fridays at 10 a.m. in April. Make a play date and the library will provide the space and toys. (Registration is not required for these Playgroup sessions.)
Jammin’ at the Library continues at the library at 6 p.m. on April 10 and 24. This month’s Jammin’ at the Library (instructional) is on April 20 at 6 p.m. Learn various methods in jammin’-style music. Topics are determined each month by the group. For more information, email [email protected].
Finding a new book series can be difficult. Let the library make it easier - Register for a session of Reader’s Advisory on April 12 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. for help with specific recommendations for books, music and movies.
Children ages 6 through 12 are invited to the first Brain Builders Free Build: Construction Zone session on April 13 at 4 p.m. Brain Builders provides opportunities for problem solving and imaginative construction, and this series of Brain Builders does not require registration.
Stop by the library on April 14 from 11-1 for Coffee and Conversation at the library. Snag a cup of coffee and chat with other community members while enjoying some cozy music and reads in our local history room.

The library will host a Bullet Journaling Workshop on April 20 at 6 p.m. Find out how one journaler uses this system, and how journaling can cater to your own needs. Register by April 17. This program is open to ages 6th grade through adult, and participants should bring their own blank journal (one with dots/graphs is helpful but not necessary) and any markers/pens/pencils they plan to use.
On April 24 at 5:30 p.m., Jeanne Beutler will return for another Watercolor Workshop on the lower level of the library. Registration is required (and the number of registrants is limited.) Walk away with your own watercolor piece of art, complete with mat. There is a $10 supply fee at the door (cash only please).
Gluten Free and Food Allergy Support Group meets on April 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Local History Room on the library’s main level.
Learn more about borrowing eBooks and eAudiobooks from the library. On April 26 at 2 p.m. bring your device to the library’s lower level meeting room for Intro to Overdrive. We’ll talk about what’s available, how to borrow materials, and answer device-specific questions. Please register to attend.
On April 27 at 10 a.m., the library will host another session of Babies Love Books. Join us for a special time of stories, movement and song for babies and toddlers (ages birth to 3 years). Activities promote language and motor development, and all children must be accompanied by a parent or child care provider who will also participate in the program. This session will include parachute fun, participants are asked to bring a small blanket with them.
Poem in Your Pocket Day (started in 2002) is an annual celebration of poetry on April 27. People are encouraged to carry a poem around with them, sharing it at work, school, libraries, with friends and family, or on Twitter using the hashtag #pocketpoem. The poem can be a favorite classic, an up-and-comer, or an original! Share with us at Bluffton Public Library, and if you’re doing so online, tag us in your post.
Friends of the Library spring tea is April 27 at 5:45 p.m., featuring the Swiss Historical Society. Tickets are $12 at the library’s front desk - cash or check.
On April 27 at 8 p.m., meet at the Quarry Farm near Pandora for a Star Walk. Please sign up by April 21 and get take-home directions to The Quarry Farm and details of potential "Cloud Date." Be sure everyone in your party brings a flashlight and dresses for the weather, including good walking boots/shoes. (Sorry, no infant strollers allowed. All children must be accompanied by a responsible parent or guardian.)
Need to get out of the house for a free, stress-relieving activity? Visit the library for Color Me Happy on April 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For this informal program, BPL will offer coloring pages, coloring utensils, and a quiet space.
The library will have an Open Game Day on April 29 during library hours. Come spend some quality time with friends or family and our assortment of board games (or bring your own!) No registration required.
The library’s Community Display Case will feature artwork from its Watercolor Workshop programs throughout the month of April.
