BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team made it a one-goal game with less than eight minutes to play and had Edgewood on its heels, but the Eagles held on for a 3-2 victory on a beautiful Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017. Bluffton slipped to 0-4 on the season, while Edgewood moved to 3-1.

Back-to-back goals by the Eagles made it 2-0 at the 37:08 mark of the first half. The home team cut the deficit in half just eight seconds prior to intermission when sophomore Aaron Pennington (Belle Center/Benjamin Logan) snuck one in off a touch from freshman Zack Ellison (Millbury/Lake).

Edgewood scored an important insurance goal two minutes into the second half and that held up until Dmitri Giakoumas (Mount Vernon) hit Ezekiel Davis (Columbus/Columbus Downtown) in stride running down the left sideline and Davis sent it past the pulled out keeper who was unable to make a play on it with less than eight minutes to play! The Eagles struggled to maintain their composure but Bluffton could not cash in with the equalizer, falling 3-2 in the Sunday afternoon thriller.

Edgewood finished with a marked 27-6 edge in shots, including 16-3 on goal. The Eagles forced six more corner kicks (12-6), while Bluffton was whistled for three more fouls (10-7). Freshman Connor Kaminicki (Nordonia) fended off 13 Edgewood shots in the 3-2 loss.

Bluffton travels to Muskingum University on Wednesday, Sept. 13. The contest is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
