Men's Soccer falls 2-1 at Defiance in OT

The Bluffton University men's soccer team went into extra time for the first time this season, but rival Defiance notched the winner at the 94:12 mark for a 2-1 victory on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The Beavers fell to 0-10 and 0-2 in the Heartland Conference, while Defiance upped its mark to 6-3-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

With Bluffton trailing 1-0 late in the second period, freshman Trent Mast (Southington/Cardinal) netted his first collegiate goal to knot the contest at 1-1.

Liam Hall tallied his second goal of the match 4:12 into the first overtime, handing the Jackets a 2-1 OT victory while denying the Beavers their first win of the season.

Defiance piled up a 29-8 edge in shots, including 12-5 on target. The Beavers were whistled for two more fouls (14-12), but DC forced six more corner kicks (9-3). Freshman keeper Levi Smith (Bluffton) came up with 10 saves for the visitors.

Bluffton is back on the road for a third straight HCAC contest when the Beavers head to Franklin for a rare Saturday night matchup under the lights. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. as the encore of a women's and men's doubleheader with the Grizzlies on October 7.
