My home 2018.

Jamie Nygaard helps people – especially those who, she says, hold Bluffton close to their heart  - count the days.

She’s released her second Bluffton calendar, with 12 beautiful color photographs of the community covering the 12 months of 2018.

And, with one successful calendar behind her, she says that she hopes to make the Bluffton calendar an annual tradition.

“When I think of the calendar I think of comfortable views of Bluffton,” she says, reflecting on her approach to the project.

“A question I try to answer when selecting the photos is: ‘What makes you think of Bluffton, especially when you come home to Bluffton?’

Nygaard, a freelance photographer and a feature photographer for the Bluffton Icon, says that her favorite photo is on the calendar’s cover. It shows Clara Beth Bixel sweeping her walk on Grove Street.

“I had to persuade Mrs. Bixel to allow me to use her photo,” said Nygaard. “She’s a private person and I respect that privacy. But, when I took the photo I knew I captured the perfect scene.”

Technically speaking, the photo was taken around 8 a.m. on a spring morning with her 200 mm lens at full zoom. She stood near Porter and Nancy King’s house when she snapped the photo.

Her first calendar venture in 2017 was a sellout. The 2018 calendar won’t remain on the shelves very long, so persons should act soon.

This year’s calendar carries the appropriate theme “My home 2018.” Each month includes a different Bluffton color photograph.

Those months and photos follow:

January – Bluffton University Snyder Circle sculpture
February – Benroth Bridge
March – St. John’s United Church of Christ front doors
April – Pink flowering dogwood on Spring Street
May – Bluffton farmers’ market
June – Festival of Wheels
July – National Night Out fireworks over the Buckeye
August – Swimming pool
September – Suter’s Morning Star Cider Press
October – Grove Street scene
November – Bluffton University swinging bridge
December – Blaze of Lights
