Bluffton's electric power supplier files for bankruptcy

Village to electric customers: "not to worry"

Bluffton electric customers received, at first glance, an ominous letter eariler this month from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of Northern Ohio.

For persons who took the time to open it, the letter stated that "you are receiving this notice because you may be a customers of FirstEnergy Solutions Corp."

First Energy provides Bluffton AEP customers with electricity and has filed for bankruptcy.

But, Bluffton council members say, "not to worry." The council plans to move ahead and contract for electric energy with the new company that replaces First Energy.

There is nothing electric customers need to do about this. And, electricity will not be curtailed.

Background on First Energy
In 2012 the County Commissioners Association of Ohio signed an aggregation contract with First Energy. The aggregation program deals with the generation portion of local bills.

Bluffton electric customers were part of that contract and Firstenergy Solutions Corp., became Bluffton's  electricity supplier.

The switch enabled group buying power for the purchase of competitively-priced electricity.

Village of Bluffton’s voters passed the governmental aggregation issue on the March 2012 ballot. The village elected to join the government electrical aggregation program managed by the County Commissioners Association of Ohio and officially named the Allen County Commissioners as the aggregators on behalf of the Village of Bluffton in order to do so.
