Village moving ahead with two annexation requests

One in Orange Township; one in Richland Township

The Village of Bluffton is moving ahead with two annexations requests, which would enlarge the village in Orange Township and Richland Township.

The two include:
• Property in Orange Township, owned by Josh Brown
• Property in Richland Township, owned by Bluffton University

Council passed separate emergency resolutions on the requests on Monday.

Both resolutions state the village intents to provide municipal services to the parcels. Municipal services include water, sewer, police protection, fire and other village services.

A legal description was not provided on the Brown property; however, it is located directly east of the State Route 103-Interstate 75 overpass. It is on the north side of 103, where Brown operates a business.

The village already has annexed land south of this property, which includes GROB Systems and the Bluffton Airport.

In October 2017 Bluffton University approached the village with a request to accept a parcel of university property into the village through annexation.

The parcel is part of what is known as the university’s nature preserve on Augsburger Road.

The university constructed a classroom on a portion of the preserve that is not currently in the village. Last year the village gave approval to the university to construct the building and provide village services while the annexation process was in play.
