New Christmas tradition at Bluffton University

Christmas at the Houshower House

Faculty, staff, students and community members gathered at Bluffton University’s Campus Welcome Center for “Christmas at the Houshower House.”

The Sunday, Dec. 2 event included carols led by Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle, lighting ceremony with President Jane Wood and prayer by Hannah Stephens ’19, pastoral assistant.

The new campus tradition highlighted the history of the Houshower House which was built by H.W. Berky and his family in the 1940s and later donated to the university by his son-in-law and daughter Mark and Margaret Houshower.

“This home, with its unique features, warm and friendly atmosphere and deep connection to campus, is so emblematic of the Bluffton experience,” said Dr. Wood. “We’re so excited to have this space welcome every single visitor to Bluffton University as the official campus Welcome Center—especially during Christmas.”
