Knocks off perennial-power Crestview 16-5

CONVOY - Visiting Bluffton knocked out 20 hits to whip perennial power Crestview 16-5 in Northwest Conference softball play Monday evening.

Bluffton improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the NWC by scoring 13 runs in its final two at bats. Meanwhile, Crestview fell to 5-2 and 1-1 in the league after the defeat.

Pirate hurler Libby Schaadt improved to 6-1 with a complete-game six-hitter. She struck out 11 Lady Knights and gave up five earned runs.

Schaadt aided her own cause with a three-run home run and a single.

Crestview led 5-1 after two innings. But the Pirates erupted for eight runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh to win going away.

Sophie Bricker led the Pirate offense with four hits, three runs and three RBI. Averey Rumer also collected three base hits.

Riley Busch doubled, singled twice and scored two runs. Brinkley Garmatter smacked three hits and drove in three runs. Madison Fleece hit a double, singled, scored two runs and drove in a pair.

Katie Prater added two hits as well.

Bluffton is slated to play at Ottoville Wednesday, then host Paulding Thursday in a key league bout.
