Cultivating a Culture of Consent

Seminar sponsored by ministerial association and CVS

Bluffton Area Ministerial Association and Day One of Crime Victim Services (CVS) will hold a seminar on “Cultivating A Culture of Consent,” from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the English Lutheran Church.

The Day One Department, 330 N. Elizabeth St., Lima,  works with survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.

The seminar will help equip persons attending to recognize, respond and reduce intimate partner violence.

Topics covered include:
• Consent 101
• Recognizing signs of violence
• Modeling healthy relationships
• Setting boundaries

“We’ll discuss the basics of healthy relationships, consent, and ways to intervene when you do see unhealthy or violent behavior. Our goal is to create a safer community for our youth, but the topics are also applicable to adults of all ages,” said Erin Ostling Burkholder of Bluffton, violence prevention coordinator for Day One of CVS.

She added: “At Crime Victim Services, we believe communities thrive when all members prevail over trauma and support one another with empathy and respect.

“Our prevention team provides workshops, community trainings, and school trainings to educate our community on the impact of intimate partner violence, while providing skills for reducing violence in our relationships.”

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Nancy Schweingruber (419-234-6021) or Kevin Mohr (419-604-9339).
