Bluffton PD apprehend two on felony drug charges

Bluffton police apprehended two Michigan residents and booked them on numerous felony drug charges following an early Sunday morning incident in the area of the Fairway Inn.

The police department’s news release follows:

On Nov. 3, at approximately 1:57 a.m., officers were on proactive patrol in the area of Fairway Inn, 855 State Route 103, Bluffton, Hancock County, Ohio. Officers observed a black Dodge pickup truck that was occupied by two people and running. Officers ran the truck's license plate through LEADS and received notification that the registered owner had an active warrant out of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office. At this time, officers approached the vehicle and detained the driver and registered owner while awaiting confirmation on the warrant.

After the warrant on the driver was confirmed by Delaware County, officers requested canine assistance from K9 Kato to perform an exterior, open air sniff around the vehicle. K9 Kato alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics in the vehicle and officers conducted a subsequent search of the vehicle. Officers located the following inside the vehicle:

  • 80.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine
  • 3.5 grams of suspected heroin
  • 1.5 grams of suspected cocaine
  • 3 suspected LSD stickers
  • 3 grams of suspected marijuana
  • $200 in U.S. currency
  • Numerous drug abuse instrument items

The occupants of the vehicle, Jerrod R. Mills, 38, and Teri J. Nickel, 36, both of Taylor, Michigan, were transported to the Hancock County Justice Center and booked into jail on numerous felony drug charges.
