Girls' soccer: BHS stays unbeaten in NWC

Downs Delphos Jefferson 4-1 at Steinmetz Field

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton soundly defeated Delphos Jefferson 4-1 in Northwest Conference girls soccer action Monday night at Steinmetz Field.

The comeback win upped the Lady Pirate record to 4-2-1 overall and 3-0 in NWC play, good for a first-place tie. In their last five matches, the red-hot Pirate girls have posted four wins and one tie.

The Lady Wildcats fell to 1-5-1 and 0-2-1 in the NWC with the defeat.

Laykin Garmatter netted two goals to pace Bluffton to victory. 

DJ's Kyrstin Moore tallied the game's first goal in the 16th minute, and the Wildcats led 1-0 until late in the first half.

Garmatter then tied it 1-1 on her first goal with under four minutes left before intermission. Then just about five minutes into the second half, she scored again to put Bluffton ahead for good.
 
Pirate Reagan Mittendorf hit the back of the net in the 69th minute to extend the lead to 3-1. Sami Scoles added the final goal in the 73rd minute to put the game out of reach.

Mittendorf, Clara Matthews and Allison Diller each passed out one assist.

The Bluffton offense fired 39 shots, 22 of which were on goal.

DJ mustered just two shots against the tough Pirate defense, with only one on target.

Pirate goalie Julia Mehaffie made one save. Busy Wildcat goalie Lillian Baugh was credited with 18 stops.    

The Lady Pirate kickers play a showdown match at NWC co-leader Columbus Grove (4-3, 3-0 NWC) Thursday, September 17.
