Soccer: Bluffton boys blank Wildcats

The Pirates fired five of its 16 shots on goal

 BLUFFTON - The host Bluffton boys soccer team defeated non-league foe Kenton 2-0 Thursday night at Steinmetz Field. 

The Pirates improved to 6-0-1 this season with the shutout win.

The game was scoreless until just before halftime. Kaden Basil netted a goal in the 39th minute to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead at intermission.

Teammate Jude Spallinger then gave Bluffton a little breathing room with the second goal in the 63rd minute.

Pirate senior Jonathan Schriner registered one assist.

Bluffton fired five of its 16 shots on goal. Kenton got off a mere three shots, two of which were on goal.

The Pirate defense and senior keeper Nic Essinger posted the shutout with two saves, while Wildcat goalie Brent Rader made three stops.         

Bluffton (5-0 home) visits Ashland Saturday, September 17.
