School district and library levies will be on the March 2016 election ballot

One election is just now over. Bluffton school board, meeting on Monday, will act on resolutions to place a three-year income tax renewal levy on the March 2016 ballot.

The current levy expires on Dec. 31, 2016. According to information from the school, the levy generates approximately $700,000 for the school district year year. The levy's purpose is for permanent improvements.

The boad will also act on another levy on the March 2016 ballot. It is a 1.0 mill tax levy for the Bluffton Public Library. The school district is the taxing authority for the library.

Village hires Rhonda Hohenbrink as income tax administrator

Bluffton council voted to hire Rhonda Hohenbrink as its part-time income tax administrator/deputy fiscal officer.

The action took place in a special council meeting on Nov. 9.

Hohenbrink will work 30 hours per week starting at $14.50 per hour and will be eligible for a 50 cent per hour increase after six months of employment.

Village employees turned on the leaf sweeper this week. According to Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, the service department will continue its leaf pickup until the end of November.

Residents should place un-bagged leaves on the side of the street, in front of residences, as close to the curb as posible.

The village asks residents to assist in the process by clearing leaves from catch basins and curb drains.

Three council committee meetings set

Several Bluffton council committee meetings were set on Monday. They follow:

• Oct. 22 - Street and alley, 7 p.m.
• Oct. 29 - Recreation board, noon
• Nov. 5 - Shannon Cemetery Commission, town hall, 7 p.m.

Council's Monday focus is fire station, sidewalks, parking

Special note about Monday’s council meeting:
• 7:30 p.m. – council will tour the Bluffton fire station on North Main St.
• 8 p.m. – council will be in session in the third floor of the town hall

Bluffton council will hear an extensive report from its streets, lights and alleys committee on Monday.

School board will act on two 2016 renewal levies on Monday

On Monday, Bluffton school board will consider action to eventually place two renewal levies on the March 15, 2016, ballot.

The levies are:

• Three-year renewal for the school’s permanent improvement percent income tax levy, which expires Dec. 31, 2016.

• Ten-year renew of the Bluffton Public Library’s one mill (1.0) levy for the purpose of maintaining current level of resources and services. It also expires on Dec. 31, 2016.
