Bluffton Family Recreation’s fall shoe drive collected 5,550 pairs of shoes, earning BFR over $2,000.
The drive not only keep shoes out of landfills, it sends them to 24 non-profit agencies around the globe. There the shoes will be refurbished and used.
This is the fourth year for BFR’s shoe drive. The previous drive generated over $4,000 to BFR.

The coffee is on at Bluffton Family Recreation.
Amy Byers, BFR sports coordinator, invites Icon viewers to drop in at BFR on Thursdays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
That’s when Coffee Walks take place. The coffee and walks are free to BFR members and track pass holders. Twisted Whisk Café sponsors the coffee.
Coffee walks take place each Thursday through the end of March. And, there more than just free coffee at BFR this winter. Check out the adult winter fitness class schedule attached at the bottom of this story.

While winter sports leagues in underway at Bluffton Family Recreation, registration is underway for two weekend youth basketball tournaments in early March.
The first is a boys’ 4th to 6th grade tournament. It takes place Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4. Team registration deadline is Feb. 4.
The second is a girls’ 4th to 6th grade tournament held Saturday and Sunday, March 10-11. Team registration deadline is Feb. 11.

Bluffton Familly Recreation SilverSneaker participants were treated to a holiday breakfast on Dec. 21 from Good Samaritan Manor, Arlington. Emily Rettig, director of social services, sales and marketing, delivered the breakfast to the nearly two dozen SilverSneaker members.
