Chamber division chairpersons named for 2011-12

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce announced the following board members as division chairs for 2011-12, according to Aphaphanh Nussbaum, chamber president:

Brendon Matthews, treasurer. Position: Reports to the board of directors and general membership on finances. Oversees all financial transactions of the chamber.

Joel Groman wins Icon's week 2 college football contest

The winner of the College Football Contest for week 2 is Joel Groman. Joel and Brad Smith both accumulated 10 points and Joel won by virtue of the first tie-breaker by picking Michigan to win by 1-7 points while Brad picked Michigan to win by 8 or more.

Other contestants:
9 points: Andy Althaus, Joe Suter, Joyce Suter, Kevin Burkholder, Mark Lindgren and Nancy Armour.

8 points: Chris Miller, Dave Moser, Duane Bollenbacher, John Clevidence, Luke Amstutz and Marlin Burkholder.

Dr. Sam Heiks, M.D., joins Celebration of Health practice

Dr. Sam Heiks, M.D.

Bluffton has a new doctor in town, but he's not new to Bluffton.

Dr. Sam Heiks, M.D., has joined the Celebration of Health practice as a family medicine physician, according to Dr. Terry Chappell, M.D., of Celebration of Health.

Dr. Heiks is currently accepting new patients of all ages. He is trained as a family physician, is interested in integrative medicine and has a special interest in prevention of illness.

Dave Moser picks 10 winners in Icon high school football contest week 3

The winner of Week 3 of the High School Football Contest is Dave Moser ([email protected]). Dave picked all 10 games correctly.

September is a busy month for the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. The monthly dinner meeting is at 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12. Phillip Murphy will perform for those attending.

Life memberships will be presented to the following members who recently reached their 90th birthday: Evelyn Sutter, Margaret Houshower, Ruby Mabry and Doris Clevenger.

The meal is catered by The Pandora Lifters. The meal includes baked steak, baked potatoes, peas with onions, Jello salad, rolls and pie.

Evelyn Reese is the MC and hostesses are Dortha Rodabaugh and friends.

The "art beat" goes on at Bluffton elementary this year

Claude Monet, Georges Rouault, Pieter Bruegel, Andrew Wyeth and Norman Rockwell will visit Bluffton elementary students and share their art in this year's Art Beat program.

The program, created by volunteers, has been part of the school's calendar since the early 1980s, according to Jeanette Reineke, who with Diane Neal, lead the program.

This year's art presenters, all volunteers, include Sally Jones, Libby Hostetler, Nancy Yeager, Joanne Krugh, Reineke and Neal. Nicole Anderson, elementary art teacher, assists the program.
