Pirates runner-up in NWC wrestling championship

Delphos Jefferson scored a total of 242 points to take the 2015 Northwest Conference Wrestling Championship in the event held at Bluffton High School.

Allen East and Bluffton tied for second in the tournament as each school totaled 228 points. Jefferson's title was their second overall NWC wrestling championship having previously won the league title in 2012.

William M. Herr was a life-long farmer

William M. Herr, 96, died Feb. 9, 2015, at 3 a.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. 

He  was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Bluffton to the late Daniel and Lavina (Burkholder) Herr.  On Nov. 1, 1939 he married Margaret Jones Herr who preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 2013.

Mr. Herr had been a life-long farmer. He was a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton. He and was a graduate of Bluffton High School.

Which one played football at OSU?

Here's the Bluffton High School Pirates varsity basketball team from 48 seasons ago - 1966-67 season. One of these guys played football at Ohio State University (Jim Opperman).

The team had a respectible 12-8 record.

Everett and Hunter named HCAC Athletes of Week

BLUFFTON, Ohio - A pair of Bluffton University track and field standouts collected their second Indoor HCAC Athlete of the Award of the season following a series of superb performances at the Joe Banks Invite on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Columbus Crew soccer camp Feb. 16 at BFR Sports and Fitness

A Columbus Crew SC Camp will take place Monday, Feb. 16, at BFR Sports & Fitness, Bluffton, according to Jeremy Parkins, Bluffton native and senior director, soccer business development for the Crew.

The camp is from 2 to 5 p.m., for youth ages 6 to 14. The cost is $75 per player.

Donald Dalrymple was a U.S. Air Force veteran

Donald K. Dalrymple, 80, died on Feb. 8, 2015, at 2:37 a.m. at the Meadows of Ottawa in Ottawa, Ohio.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1934, in Lima, Ohio, to William F. and Beulah (Jones) Dalrymple and they preceded him in death. On May 24, 1958, he married Patricia LaRue and she survives in Pandora.

He retired from the Ford Motor Company, Lima, in 1997 after working for 32 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served from 1954 to 1958. He attended the Pandora Missionary Church.
