Linda Staley named Volunteer of Year at Bluffton Senior Citizens Center

Linda Staley is the Bluffton Senior Citizen Center volunteer of the year, according to Tonya Meyer, director.

Staley was selected for the honor by the Center board of directors. The volunteer of the year is chosen for "hard work, long hours and dedication to the center."

Meyer said, "Linda has volunteered many hours in the kitchen during fundraisers and has donated hats, scarves and other items that she creates for the Senior Center Gift Shop.

Roger Edwards, board president-elect, presented the award at the December dinner meeting to a very surprised Staley.

Dorothy Steiner was a Triplett Corp. retiree

Dorothy M. Steiner, 86, of Bluffton, died at 11:29 a.m. January 7, 2014 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. She was born March 2, 1927, in Bluffton. Her parents were the late Oscar and Frances Wenger.  On Nov. 26, 1947 she married Franklin W. Steiner and he preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1993.

Mrs. Steiner retired from Triplett Corp., Bluffton, and was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Bluffton, She was a graduate of Bluffton High School.

Main Street science experiment

It sounds a little crazy, but you need to watch to video - probably more than once. Brandon Huber tosses a glass of water into Main Street when the temperature is lower than you'd like. Here are Wednesday cancellations - including trash/recycling pickup info

The Village of Bluffton’s refuse and recycling contractor, Allied Waste (Republic Services), has informed the Village that they will be unable to pick up residential refuse and recycling Tuesday as previously hoped for.

Given the current weather conditions, they are unable to operate. They had hoped to be able to operate on a one-day-behind schedule.

Residents who are on the Monday pick-up schedule will not have their garbage and recycling picked up until next Monday (Jan. 13).

There's still time to enter BCE's 2014 Ropp Triplett Business Plan Competition; $6,000 in business start up prize money awarded

Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs has announced prize money and seminar dates its Ropp Triplett Business Plan Competition.

First place prize is $5,000 in business start-up costs and a one-year BCE client program membership. Second place is $1,000 in start-up costs and a one-year BCE client program membership. Third place is a one-year BCE client program membership.

This is BCE’s fifth business plan competition and it recognizes the late Ropp Triplett, long-time Bluffton industrial leader and entrepreneur.
