Jeanne and Peter Previte, representing Jeanne's Kitchen of Bluffton, was one of seven restaurants offering soup during Friday's Maple Crest soup-off. Their soup was cream of mushroom. Watch the Icon for the winning soup announcement. CLICK for a video.

Jan Basinger, Bluffton EMS chief, provided the Icon with the January EMS report. It follows:

January was a month of extreme temperatures, with a high of 64 and low of 4 degrees, according to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer.

The month reached 64 degrees F twice, once on Jan. 13 and once on Jan. 30.  There was a total of six days that reached 50 degrees or above in January and four of those days were above 60 degrees.

The low of four degrees was observed on Jan. 22.

This represents a 60 degree swing within one month.  And it seems we are at the low end of any sort of swing now.

For several Bluffton University students, fall semester 2012 included exposure to different cultures, internship opportunities and visits to historical sites.

Five of them, all seniors, recounted those experiences off campus during a Bluffton Forum on Jan. 29.

Five members of the Bluffton University Concert Band were part of the honors concert band that performed last month at the Ohio Private College Instrumental Conductors Association Honors Festival.
