The Bluffton University women’s soccer team was defeated 1-0 by Manchester University on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012. The Beavers fell to 3-9-1 and 1-3-1 in the Heartland Conference, while the Spartans improved to 7-5-3 and 3-2-1 in the HCAC.

Several part-time contracts are on the Monday, Oct. 22, Apollo Career Center board of education agenda.

A Food Day event will take place in Lima on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the City Club, 144 S. Main Street, from 5-8 p.m., according to the Allen County Department of Health.

Allen County’s first 2012 West Nile Virus (WNV)-associated death was reported Oct. 17 by the Allen County Health Department.  Five previous WNV deaths have been reported in Ohio.  

“We would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of this individual,” says Kathy Luhn, Allen County Health Commissioner. 

Sweetest Day is Saturday, Oct. 20. Town and Country Flowers, 121 S. Main St., has a special offer for the event, according to Connie Kruse of the flower shop.

Charles R. Emans, 98, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, in Olympia, Washington.  He was born in Bluffton, Ohio, June 25, 1914, to Charles F. and Mary A. (Shoemaker) Emans. He married Virginia Bell, Jan. 1, 1939, and they were divorced. He graduated from Bluffton High School in 1932, and attended Bluffton College.
