Bluffton University senior Heather Schierer (Crescent Springs, Ky./St. Henry) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for offense. It marked just her second week as a hitter after starting at libero for much of the season.
The standout right side pounded 37 kills (3.7 kills per set) and finished the week with a .369 hitting percentage. Schierer knocked down a career-high 20 kills in a four-set win at Anderson and followed that performance with 10 kills and a .625 hitting percentage in the win over Goshen.
Ruth M. Green, 90 of Rockport died at 7:25 a.m. Oct. 1, 2012, at Richland Manor Nursing Home. She was born June 9, 1922, in Lima to Ernest and Florence (Cook) Freet. On Dec. 24, 1946 she married Robert H. Green and he survives.
Mrs. Green was a homemaker and had worked at the Kewpee for 15 years. She was a member of the Rockport United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Friendly Neighbor Club. She was a 1941 graduate of Beaverdam High School.
On Saturday, Oct. 6, the Apollo Levy Committee will host a Chicken Barbecue and Corn Hole Tournament Fundraiser at Apollo.
Chicken Dinners will be sold and curbside pickup available from 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. in front of Apollo Career Center. Dinners are $7 each.
A Corn Hole Tournament will begin at noon. Residents will also have the opportunity to drive a semi-truck at Apollo’s Truck Driving Academy for a donation throughout the day. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Apollo Levy Committee.
