Bluffton University will honor three alumni and a retired faculty member at its annual alumni awards banquet on Homecoming weekend. The Commons, in Marbeck Center, will be the site at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30.

Marietta (Landis) Sawatzky '65 is this year's recipient of the Lifetime Service Award, presented to alumni who have dedicated their lives to heartfelt service to people, community or church.

Women's Entrepreneurial Network (WEN) will hold its monthly Bluffton meeting at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 19, in Jeanne's Kitchen.

WEN is an organization for women and men interested in networking with other entrepreneurials. The meeting is open to all interested persons. WEN is a member of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Nellie P. Harris

Nellie P. Harris, 90 died at 11:30 p.m., Sept. 15, 2011 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born Jan. 9, 1921 in Gilboa, Ohio to Rex and Ruth (Townsend) Ridge. On March 16, 1941 she married Donald Harris and he died August 13, 1988.

She was a farmer's wife. She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Benton Ridge. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Rawson. She had volunteered for hospice and for Reach for Recovery. She was a former member of the Hancock County Farm Bureau. She was a 1937 graduate of Liberty High School, rural Findlay.

Robin Glick was named the Mennonite Memorial Home employee of the month for September.

The Icon spotted this Vietnam Vet's plate during the Hancock Handlebars visit to Bluffton on Sept. 18.

A birthday to remember

Lindsey Sneary won't ever forget her 18th birthday. She received this surprise at the end of the BHS band halftime show Friday. Lindsey is the senior flag corp captain.
