Children Safety Award by the Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition

Bluffton police officer Hope Hannah was presented the Children Safety Award by the Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition-FAPA-FOP, according to Ryan Burkholder, police chief, who nominated her for the award.

The presentation was made during a Sept. 20 award luncheon at the Fraternal Order of Police Lima Lodge 21.

Hannah joined the Bluffton police department as a part-time officer in August 2007. In 2012 she moved to 30 hours per week and became full-time in 2014.

Pickup may change to every other week

Bluffton recycling customers will soon experience an additional cost for recycling plus changes in local pickup.

Jesse Blackburn, village administrator, updated Bluffton council on Monday following a meeting with Republic Services, the village recycling provider. Republic's contract expires this fall.

Ayla McConnahea of Bluffton pets a Thrianta buck held by Ben Hartzler at the Swiss homestead during Saturday's Fall Festival. Gary Wetherill displayed many of his animals including this buck. Ayla is the daughter of Matt and Nicole McConnahea.

The Lady Pirate volleyball squad dispatched Spencerville in three games Tuesday 25-11, 25-23, 25-18.  The win was the first of the year in conference play. 

Senior Katie Prater led the way with 11 kills and 10 digs.  Ameri Siferd had a complete all-around game with 7 kills, 10 assists and 4 aces.  Kylie Stackhouse picked up 7 kills and 2 blocks. Libby Schaadt added 7 kills in the win, Skyler Scoles 21 assists, Madison Fleece 11 digs.

Looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season, the Pirate boys soccer team was surprised by visiting Ada Tuesday night. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 halftime lead which did not last long.
