Planned for Saturday, Sept. 29

The Pandora United Methodist Church will conduct a half-day pilgrimage to the National Shrine and Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The tour covers the history of the Shrine and the historical connections between the Roman Catholic tradition and Protestantism as well and the relationship to the United Methodist Church. 

Persons interested in participating can to meet in Pandora at 108 E Washington St. to carpool to Carey where the tour will begin at 10 a.m. at the Shrine Park. 

The Morse Family Gospel Singers, a local inter-generational family singing group, will present at 7 p.m. concert, Sunday, Sept. 23, at English Lutheran Church, 111 Grove St. Bluffton.

There will be a free-will offering, and a light reception will follow the concert in the church fellowship hall.

The Bluffton University volleyball team rolled through Wilmington in three sets (25-18, 25-17, 25-8) on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Wilmington fell to 1-12, while the Beavers upped their season tally to 6-7 following their fourth straight victory.

Senior Jessie Gibson (Warsaw/River View) was on fire from the start, hammering home 11 kills against three errors for a .348 hitting percentage. Table setter Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas) hit at a ridiculous .600 clip thanks to seven kills and one error on just 10 swings.

10 non-profit organization will benefit

Area residents received an invitation in the mail this week to make a contribution to the 2018-19 United Way of Bluffton, Beaverdam and Richland Township.

This year’s campaign goal is $26,500. Ten area non-profit organizations benefit from contributions.

University senior to share ‘Beyond the Words’

Becky Boban, a  Bluffton University senior, will present “Beyond the Words” during an 11 a.m. Forum on Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Reading Room of Musselman Library.

Boban, a senior from Madison, Ohio, is an art and writing major who spent the summer of 2018 pursuing her passion for writing. Through grants from Bluffton University, she attended two writers’ workshops and honed her craft.

Boban has been published in “The Merrimack Review,” “Asterism,” “Periphery” and “Bridge: The Bluffton University Literary Journal.”

“Unexpected Decisions,” focusing on advanced directives and Ohio DNR, will be presented on Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 12-1 p.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 Elm St., Bluffton.  The presentation is approved for one contact hour for social workers and nurses.

Presenter Niki Sidle, MSW, LISW-S, will discuss the challenges individuals encounter when required to make difficult decisions and how medical professionals can support those individuals.  Sidle is bereavement coordinator at Bridge Home Health & Hospice.
