Apollo Career Center Honors Graduates, Alumni and Citizens of the Year
TApollo Career Center will celebrate National Career Technical Education month starting with its annual All Area Boards meeting, Thursday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m. in the Apollo Commons.
Board members from Apollo’s 11-member schools and three County Educational Service Centers will be present, in addition to special guests.
Elizabeth K. Benjamin, 93, of Findlay died at 8:05 p.m. Feb. 4, 2014, at Richland Manor, Bluffton. She was born Sept. 13, 1920 in Frankfort, Germany, to the late Karl and Elizabeth Baumann Lerch. On Aug.t 2, 1946, she married John Benjamin and he preceded her in death in June, 1985.
She was a homemaker and had graduated from business school in Frankfort. She attended Trinity Baptist Church, Findlay.
The Bluffton Elementary PTO bakery Bingo event was a great success, according to Melissa Knauss, PTO president. The group estimates that this year's profit may be over $3,000, up from over $2,300 last year.
"We ended up with 22 classroom baskets, and 31 business baskets for a total of 53," she said. "Everyone had fun playing Bingo."
"We had eight tables filled with donated baked goods, which then individuals who won Bingo, could pick their choice of a baked good.
"The winner of our 50/50 drawing was Natalie Mueller, taking home $215," she added.
The American Heritage Girls program is coming to Bluffton.
AHG is a nonprofit, faith-based organization dedicated to the mission of building women of integrity through service to God, family, community, and country. It is open to girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade.
Tanya Augsburger (Troop Coordinator) and Randa Kinn (Vice Coordinator) have been working through the process of getting an AHG troop going here. Every AHG Troop has a Chartering Organization, and Bluffton Baptist Church has agreed to fill that role for Bluffton’s AHG Troop OH2505.
Bluffton High School football standout Isaac Little will join the University of Cincinnati's football program as a preferred walk-on. The announcement was made on Feb. 5 by Alex Hanna, BHS athletic director.
As a Pirate, Little was a first team all-Ohio, all-Northwest Ohio and all-Northwest Conference player.
The Bluffton fire department takes on the Bluffton police department in the second annual Battle of the Badges basketball game. The police team hopes to defend their title from last year’s inaugural contest.
The event, at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 2, at the Sommer Center at Bluffton University, is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted at the door.
The fund-raiser will include raffles, door prizes, a 50-50 drawing, concessions and the chance for a half-court shot.
