The Senior High Youth of First Mennonite Church will hold a noon fundraiser following worship service on Sunday, April 3. The menu includes haystacks and a dessert buffet.

Funds raised will go toward the youth trip to the Mennonite Youth Convention in Pittsburgh, Pa., this summer, and to the youths' tithing project.

This year the SHY are giving 15 percent of funds raised to two organizations. Those include World Vision's adopt a child and the Pittsburgh Mennonite Convention Scholarship Fund.

Practice jump

Tyler Treen, a member of the Bluffton High School track team, takes a practice jump on the hurdles.

"Emma" is this week's Jane Austen film show at the Bluffton Public Library. The show is at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 29.

The film showing is part of Bluffton University' Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) and the Friends of the Library. A discussion of the film will follow its showing.

The Bluffton American Legion Post 382 has selected one Bluffton High School senior-to-be to attend Buckeye Girls State and one to attend Buckeye Boys State, according to Robert Amstutz, Post commander.

Buckeye Girls State is held at the University of Mount Union, Alliance. The session begins June 12 and ends June 18. There will be 900 girls participating in this 65th annual session.

English Lutheran Church, along with other Lutheran congregations from across the nation, is participating in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) World Hunger Good Gifts 'Buck-a-Chick' program this Lent, according to Kevin Mohr, pastor.

"Instead of purchasing commercial greeting cards, for a one dollar donation, you can receive and decorate a greeting card, created by Connie Maroscher of English Lutheran," he said.

Seen on the street

Construction workers shed some light on the subject at the Bluffton Hospital. Window installation is underway this week at the corner of Garau and Harmon.
